Swedish Politicians Demand Tougher Measures Against Iran After Murder Attempt on Arvin Khoshnood

Swedish political leaders are calling for stronger actions against Iran following a recently revealed murder attempt on Arvin Khoshnood, an expert on Iranian affairs, in Sweden. Khoshnood survived the attempt at his residence and now lives under protection from the Swedish Security Police amid concerns for his family's safety. A 16-year-old has been arrested in connection with this attack and a separate shooting incident a week later, both suspected to be directed by an Iranian-linked individual, according to authorities.

Douglas Thor, leader of the Moderate Youth League, urged the Swedish government to take all possible measures, including expelling the Iranian regime from Sweden and shutting down mosques and the Iranian embassy, which he claims serve intelligence purposes. Other political factions, including the Liberals and Sweden Democrats, have also voiced support for tougher actions against Iran.

Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer acknowledged that threats from Iran to Sweden are not new but stressed the government’s commitment to protecting those at risk, emphasizing close cooperation with security agencies. Meanwhile, Iran's ambassador to Sweden denied the accusations, accusing Sweden of harboring Iranian terrorists.

Despite the threats, Khoshnood remains firm in his activism, stating he will only be silenced on his own terms. The incident has intensified calls in Sweden for a reexamination of Iran's presence and activities in the country amid broader security concerns.
