Swedish Off-Duty Police Officer Dies After Violent Incident at Copenhagen Football Event; Community Rallies with Large Fundraiser

A Swedish police officer tragically died following a violent assault while intervening to break up a fight at a football match viewing event in Copenhagen. The incident occurred during the match between Ivory Coast and Norway, where the 32-year-old officer from Eksjö was off-duty but stepped in to prevent escalating violence at a bar. According to Åsa Bergman, chair of the police union in the Öst region, the officer suffered severe injuries which led to his death after being hospitalized.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the assault. Copenhagen police released a public appeal for information, and the suspect surrendered. His efforts have been warmly embraced by the community, raising over one million kronor within a day to support the deceased officer's family. Oskar expressed his gratitude for the public's support, saying, "It is really nice that people want to support the family and do their absolute best for them." The funds raised are intended to be handed directly to the officer’s widow, recognizing that while money cannot replace a lost life, it can provide valuable assistance to the surviving family members.
