Swedish Municipalities Debate Reducing Council Members with Mixed Outcomes

In Kramfors, a decision was reached on Monday during a municipal council meeting to reduce the number of politicians. Conversely, in Karlskrona, a similar proposal to reduce council members faced rejection. The Moderate Party (M), Sweden Democrats (SD), and Christian Democrats (KD) collectively abandoned the initiative on Monday after failing to secure support from other parties in the council. Carl-Göran Svensson from M expressed disappointment about the stalemate, remarking, "It has been many sessions, and we are not getting further, which is unfortunate." A crucial deadline of March 1 was noted as necessary for any proposal to affect the next mandate period, adding urgency to the discussions.
