Swedish Men's Curling Team Reaches 2025 European Championship Final After Dramatic Semifinal Win

The Swedish men's curling team, led by Niklas Edin, has secured a place in the final of the 2025 European Curling Championships after a pivotal semifinal victory over Scotland in Lojo. Despite a heavy 4-11 defeat to Scotland in the group stage earlier in the tournament, Sweden bounced back with a strong strategic performance to win the semifinal 8-5.

Sweden held a 7-5 lead heading into the final end, where Edin skillfully executed a two-point play in the ninth end to push their advantage. The team maintained composure and forced Scotland, the world number one and recent world champions, to miss their final chance to equalize. This victory avenges their earlier group-stage loss and echoes their Olympic final clash in Beijing, where Sweden also triumphed.

Looking ahead, Sweden is set to face Switzerland in Saturday's final after the Swiss defeated Italy 8-7 in their semifinal. Edin, an experienced skip aiming for his eighth European Championship title since his first in 2009, praised his team's improved play and resilience under pressure. He reflected, "We have met them millions of times before. We were in the same situation in the Olympic final (Peking 2022). We had to play at our best. I think we played much better now than we did during the week."

Additionally, the Swedish women's team, led by Anna Hasselborg, is also competing in the women's final against Scotland, highlighting a strong Swedish presence in this year's European Championships.
