Swedish Liberals Survive 2026 Election Amid Internal Strife and Strategic Shifts

The Swedish Liberal Party narrowly secured its place in the Riksdag following a tense election period marked by internal conflict and strategic realignment. After months of campaigning, party leader Simona Mohamsson celebrated the party's survival, reflecting on the difficult path they had traveled. Despite facing polls that threatened their parliamentary presence, the Liberals avoided falling below the critical 4% electoral threshold, largely due to tactical voting by their supporters.

Mohamsson's controversial decision to engage the Sweden Democrats (SD) in government talks ignited significant intra-party debate, with many members opposing this departure from past policies.
