Swedish Interns Gain Hands-On Experience in National Energy Projects as Chemistry Course Inspires Young Learners Globally

This summer, Swedish interns at Svenska kraftnät engaged in impactful projects spanning electricity transmission, sustainability, market analysis, and dam safety, while internationally, Nguyen Le Thao Anh inspired youth through an innovative chemistry course supporting cancer patients.

At Svenska kraftnät, interns like Sandra worked on current limits for transmission lines, creating scripts to calculate temperature-dependent limits. Daniel and Isabelle modeled 400 kV stations to enhance grid capacity using PSS/E software. Hanna contributed to property management and sustainability efforts as the utility prepared to move headquarters. Meanwhile, Hugo, Lina, Elliot, and Elsa conducted market analysis and developed technical tools in the Balancing Markets section, learning crucial aspects of system stability. Thea assisted dam safety specialists by analyzing data from over 450 classified dams and visiting facilities in Jämtland.

Globally, Nguyen Le Thao Anh, a decorated science student set to begin a PhD at Cambridge, launched SOMMARKEMI 2026—a summer chemistry course designed to ignite curiosity and practical learning among young students. Notably, all course proceeds were donated to support families of children with cancer in Hanoi, with gifts worth 11 million VND delivered to 55 affected families. Thao Anh stresses the importance of sharing knowledge and kindness, merging education with humanitarian efforts.

These initiatives reflect a dual commitment to advancing scientific understanding and emphasizing social responsibility, whether through practical internships in Sweden’s energy sector or fostering a passion for chemistry combined with charitable giving abroad.
