Swedish Footballers Moustafa Zeidan, Mattias Johansson, and Edvin Becirovic Sign with Clubs in Egypt and Greece

Several Swedish footballers have made significant career moves abroad in early 2026, signing with clubs in Egypt and Greece.

Moustafa Zeidan, formerly of Malmö FF, has agreed to join Egypt's Al Masry SC. Zeidan featured in 34 matches for Malmö FF, scoring four goals and providing seven assists since joining the club in summer 2022. However, his playing time diminished under coach Henrik Rydström following a difficult 2022 season. Daniel Andersson, Malmö's sports director, praised Zeidan's offensive talents and wished him success in this new chapter. The agreement with Al Masry, currently fifth in the Egyptian Premier League, is expected to be officially announced soon.

In Greece, two Swedish players have also secured new contracts. Mattias Johansson, 33, has signed for Apollon Kalythion, a third division club based on Rhodes. Johansson, who has eight caps for the Swedish national team, brings a wealth of experience from clubs across Europe and Greece, including Jönköpings Södra, Niki Volou, AE Larissa, IFK Göteborg, and Panathinaikos. He is preparing to relocate to Rhodes to begin this new opportunity.

Meanwhile, Edvin Becirovic has signed with FC Marko, a club competing in the Greek second division. Becirovic played 41 matches and scored seven goals during his two years at Gais before leaving on a free transfer. He expressed heartfelt gratitude for his time with Gais, calling it an honor to wear their colors. At FC Marko, Becirovic will join former Mjällby player Alexander Johansson. His presentation at the new club is anticipated soon, barring any unforeseen obstacles.

These moves highlight the growing trend of Swedish footballers seeking opportunities outside their homeland in emerging football markets and continuing their professional development abroad.
