Swedish companies Ellevio, Schneider Electric, and Vattenfall InCharge have jointly introduced a new technology solution aimed at accelerating the deployment of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across Sweden. The initiative addresses a significant bottleneck caused by grid capacity limitations that have been delaying the expansion of crucial EV infrastructure.
The project’s first test site is in Farsta, Stockholm, where the technology utilizing automatic load reduction is being trialed. This method temporarily limits electricity consumption during peak demand periods, freeing up grid capacity and allowing more charging stations to be connected faster without drastically impacting EV users, who will receive notifications if their charging is affected.
According to Anders Ekberg, head of operations and maintenance at Ellevio, “Together we have developed a solution that allows more charging stations to be connected faster.” Following the initial testing phase, the solution will expand to forty charging stations in Stockholm, then roll out nationwide.
