Swedish Authorities Uncover Global Drug Syndicate Following Major Arrests

Swedish police, in collaboration with Europol, have dismantled a vast international drug trafficking and money laundering network after seizing critical evidence in a small Swedish town. Dubbed "Operation Candy," the two-year investigation began when authorities recovered two mobile phones that revealed the intricate syndicate behind extensive narcotics operations across Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Thirteen Swedes were arrested in coordinated raids conducted simultaneously in Sweden, Spain, and Thailand, with previous related actions taking place in Australia and Germany. The suspects, predominantly men between 50 and 70 years old, are believed to have been key facilitators in both Swedish and global criminal enterprises. According to Mats Berggren, acting deputy chief at the Swedish National Operations Department (Noa), these individuals operated through a complex web of companies designed to conceal their illicit profits.

Senior prosecutor Shahrzad Rahimi confirmed that five suspects have been detained on serious money laundering charges, focusing on a vast corporate network used to disguise and move illicit gains. The operation resulted in over 20 searches and seizures of assets valued between 3 to 4 million euros.

Johan Dire, operational chief of "Operation Pandora," a parallel enforcement effort, emphasized the impact of this crackdown, stating it will significantly disrupt online drug sales within Sweden and strike a severe blow to the criminal economy. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities anticipate further arrests as they analyze the substantial evidence collected.
