Sweden Upsets Spain in Volleyball EM Qualifiers, Closer to Championship Spot

In a thrilling encounter, Sweden's men's volleyball team secured a notable victory against Spain during the qualifiers for the 2025 European Volleyball Championship, winning the match 3-1 in sets (22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-22) in Habo. This victory is particularly significant as it comes after Sweden triumphed over the higher-ranked team in both matchups during the qualification phase.

Following the match, libero Joel Andersson expressed his pride in the team's performance, highlighting, "So himla, himla skönt." He emphasized the importance of team chemistry, stating, "Vi har jobbat mycket på lagsammanhållning och det är sådana här dagar det syns." This sense of teamwork has been crucial, especially after the team had faced challenges at the beginning of the qualifiers.

Currently, Sweden leads Group E with 7 points, placing them ahead of Switzerland who has 4 points, although Switzerland has played one less match. The final qualifier for Sweden will be against Switzerland on August 16, where the outcome will determine who advances to the EM.

Veteran player Viktor Lindberg remarked on the potential for Sweden to qualify, noting, "Det hade varit det största på väldigt länge och det största jag varit med om, känns som att det är på tiden." This win not only boosts Sweden’s chances but also builds anticipation for the pivotal match ahead.
