Sweden Unveils Squad for 2027 Women's World Cup Qualifiers with New Talents Included

Tony Gustavsson, head coach of the Swedish women's national football team, has announced a robust squad ahead of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers in Brazil. The roster, featuring a blend of experienced internationals and promising newcomers, is set to compete against Denmark, Serbia, and Italy in the quest for World Cup qualification.

The squad announcement highlights first-time call-ups Sofia Reidy and Matilda Winberg, signaling an emphasis on injecting fresh energy. Gustavsson outlined his selection criteria during the press conference, focusing on high-intensity running, ball security under pressure, and the ability to penetrate defenses both with and without the ball.

The team will undergo an extended twelve-day training camp, an increase from the previous nine days, to prepare thoroughly for the qualifiers. Sweden's first fixture is scheduled for March 3 against Italy, followed by a match in Serbia, with the home opener against Denmark set for April 14 at Gamla Ullevi.

The goalkeeper trio consists of Tove Enblom (Vålerenga), Jennifer Falk (Liverpool), and Moa Öhman (Malmö). Defenders include Bella Andersson (Real Madrid), Smilla Holmberg (Arsenal), Elma Junttila Nelhage, Hanna Lundkvist, Amanda Nildén, Sofia Reidy, Fridolina Rolfö (Manchester United), and Hanna Wijk.
