Sweden Unveils Exciting Lineup for 2026 Ice Hockey World Championship in Switzerland

As the Ice Hockey World Championship kicks off on May 15, 2026, in Switzerland, Sweden's national team, Tre Kronor, has announced a promising preliminary roster featuring a blend of NHL players and rising super talents.

The squad includes experienced NHL athletes such as forward Carl Grundström of the Philadelphia Flyers, who recently ended his NHL season after Carolina defeated his team in the playoffs. Grundström has accepted an invitation to join Tre Kronor, resulting in Luleå's Isac Hedqvist leaving the team to make room. Defenders on the roster include Jacob Larsson from SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers and Mattias Ekholm of the Edmonton Oilers. Goalkeepers named are Arvid Söderblom (Chicago Blackhawks), Magnus Hellberg (Djurgårdens IF), and young talent Love Härenstam (Södertälje SK).

In addition to NHL players, head coach Sam Hallam highlighted the inclusion of exciting youth prospects such as Viggo Björck and Ivar Stenberg, both set to make their World Championship debuts. Other junior champions like Anton Frondell, Jack Berglund, and Love Härenstam also feature, underscoring Sweden’s focus on nurturing young talent.

Sweden is placed in Group B alongside strong opponents including the Czech Republic, Canada, Denmark, Italy, Norway, Slovakia, and Slovenia. The group stage runs through May 26, with Sweden's opening game against Canada on May 15 at 15:00 (broadcast on Viaplay Sport and TV6). Key matches against Denmark and the Czech Republic are scheduled for May 17 and 18 respectively. The top four teams from each group will advance to the playoffs, culminating in the final on May 31, also broadcast on TV6.

Coach Hallam expressed enthusiasm about the team's composition and the competition ahead: "It will be exciting to see our young talents in a World Championship environment," noting the ongoing NHL playoffs may prompt additional call-ups to the team.
