Sweden Shines at 2026 Paralympics with Gold and Bronze Medals

At the 2026 Paralympics in Italy, Sweden's athletes delivered impressive performances, securing two notable medals amidst a competitive field. Ebba Årsjö captured gold in the skiing combination event, which comprised slalom and super-G, adding to her earlier wins of a downhill gold and a super-G bronze at these games. Expressing her satisfaction after the win, Årsjö told Radiosporten, "I am very satisfied!" This victory reinforces her status as a leading figure in Paralympic skiing.

In addition to Årsjö's success, Zebastian Modin earned a bronze medal in the visually impaired sprint skiing event. Despite experiencing difficulties during the race, particularly losing momentum on a steep uphill section, Modin maintained his composure and goal focus. He commented on his performance with a hint of humor, saying, "Man är väl ingen champion" (I'm not really a champion). Modin, who has now medaled in five consecutive Paralympic Games and holds nine medals overall, continues to await his first gold. The sprint final was won by Jake Adicoff of the USA, with Shuang Yu of China taking silver.

While celebrating these individual successes, the Swedish wheelchair curling team faced a setback, narrowly losing 6-5 to Canada, leaving them with a tournament record of four wins and two losses. Skipper Viljo Petersson Dahl expressed frustration over missed opportunities despite an impressive performance including a "super stone" shot. Sweden's next challenge lies ahead against Slovakia.
