Sweden Shines at 2026 Indoor Athletics World Championships with Gold and Bronze Medals

The 2026 Indoor Athletics World Championships in Torun, Poland concluded with Sweden achieving its best performance in 22 years, securing two medals. Armand Duplantis led the charge by winning gold in the pole vault, clearing a height of 6.25 meters. This victory marked his fourth gold medal at the World Championships, highlighting his continued dominance in the event.

Alongside Duplantis, Axelina Johansson earned a bronze medal in the shot put by setting a new Swedish national record with a throw of 19.75 meters. Johansson expressed her excitement after the achievement, saying, “It felt so good!” Other Swedish athletes also delivered strong performances, with Khaddi Sagnia finishing fourth in the long jump and Samuel Pihlström placing fourth in the 1500 meters.

The championship took place from March 20 to 22, bringing together the world’s top indoor athletes. Sweden’s two-medal haul included the gold by Duplantis and bronze by Johansson, contributing to a historic moment for the nation in indoor athletics. Reflecting on his gold medal performance, Duplantis shared with Radiosporten, “I feel happy, satisfied, it was a good jump, 6.25 there so I can't complain too much. I brought the gold back to Sweden too, so that was the most important.”
