Sweden Secures Hosting Rights for 2029 Table Tennis European Team Championship in Helsingborg

Sweden has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2029 Table Tennis European Team Championship, with Helsingborg designated as the host city. This announcement follows Sweden's successful organization of the championship in Malmö in 2023, where the Swedish team clinched the gold medal in the team competition. The European Table Tennis Union made the decision to entrust Sweden with hosting the prestigious event once again.

Johnny Ewerstein, the events and operations manager of the Swedish Table Tennis Association, expressed enthusiasm and gratitude for the opportunity to organize another major international championship. He highlighted the trust placed in Sweden to deliver a successful event following the positive experience in Malmö.

The 2029 championship will bring significant attention to Helsingborg, another city in the Skåne region, underscoring Sweden's ongoing role in European table tennis. The announcement comes at a time when Sweden’s table tennis team is navigating challenges; notably, Swedish player Truls Möregårdh expressed disappointment following the team’s elimination in the quarterfinals of the recent World Team Championships against Taiwan, stating, "we really should not be here."

With the solid experience from 2023’s event, Sweden is poised to showcase its organizational capabilities once again in 2029, continuing its legacy within European table tennis.
