In a thrilling finish to the 2026 Finnkampen athletics competition, Sweden's women's team clinched a narrow victory over Finland with a final score of 230 to 222 points. The decisive moment came during the 800-meter race where Alice Magnell Millán delivered a standout performance. She surged ahead on the backstretch and held the lead to the finish line, winning the race ahead of Finnish competitor Evelina Määttänen. Mia Barnett and Maria Freij also contributed by finishing third and fifth, respectively, bolstering the team’s points.

Magnell Millán expressed her exhilaration after the race, saying, "It was incredible. To do this at Finnkampen and help the team to a win... so much fun. I saw my chance and took it."

Meanwhile, the men's team faced a heartbreaking defeat determined by a photo finish, which denied Sweden a double victory. Athlete Jonas Magnusson, a 1,500-meter runner, described the loss as “sickeningly sour.” Despite the disappointment in the men's competition, the women’s team’s success brought celebration, highlighted by coach Kajsa Bergqvist's joyful jump into the water pit after their win.
