Sweden's 2026 Election Results Confirm Shifts in Regional and Parliamentary Power

The final results of Sweden’s 2026 regional and parliamentary elections have been confirmed, revealing notable shifts in political representation across the country. The County Administrative Boards completed the vote recount for the parliamentary elections, confirming a preliminary mandate distribution of 173 seats for the government and 176 for the opposition parties. The Election Authority has also finalized the individuals elected based on personal votes, making clear who will represent Sweden in the national parliament.

In Jämtland’s regional election results, the Social Democrats experienced a significant setback, losing three seats, while the Moderates gained two seats, reflecting a subtle but meaningful shift in regional political power. Meanwhile, the Centre Party also saw major gains, particularly in Bergs municipality, alongside slight increases for the Green Party. Despite losses, the Social Democrats and Centre Party maintain a majority in Östersund.

A standout personal vote was received by Amanda Lind of the Green Party, who garnered 13,808 personal votes. This count placed her eighth among the candidates with the highest vote tallies nationwide, further securing her position in parliament.

The elections also brought attention to political engagement among youth. Rasmus Ericsson, a young Christian Democrat politician from Jämtland, emphasized the importance of involving younger generations in politics to address societal issues such as disability and elderly care.

A concerning event occurred in Krokom during the elections when a person was reported for bringing a hunting rifle to a polling station, prompting police involvement. Authorities noted no immediate threats were present.
