Sweden Men's Table Tennis Team Triumphs Over South Korea at World Championship

The Sweden men's national table tennis team secured an impressive 3-0 victory against South Korea at the 2026 World Table Tennis Team Championship held in London. The event, marking 100 years since the first world championship, is ongoing at OVO Arena Wembley from April 28 to May 10.

Anton Källberg spearheaded Sweden's success by defeating world number nine Jang Woojin 3-1. Despite a slow start, Källberg adapted his service strategy effectively, enabling a comeback that sealed the win. Reflecting on his performance, Källberg said, "It couldn't have been better."

Truls Möregårdh also contributed with a 3-1 victory over An Jaehyun. Although Möregårdh faced difficulties, including a tense final set that required a timeout with the score at 9-7, he ultimately clinched the match 12-10. Mattias Karlsson faced a challenging opponent in Oh Junsung, saving six match points before prevailing 3-2. Karlsson’s inclusion came ahead of Elias Ranefur, who had previously solidified Sweden’s group position through aggressive play.

The Swedish team’s win is significant for tournament ranking and aims to steer clear of formidable teams like Japan or France until at least the semifinals. Their next match against England is anticipated to be crucial for maintaining momentum and favorable seeding.

Adding to the tournament's excitement, South Korea notably defeated China, underscoring the highly competitive atmosphere. Sweden's commanding performance against South Korea stands as a highlight as they continue their campaign in this prestigious championship.
