Sweden Launches First Higher Education Program in Assisted Technology at Högskolan Dalarna

Högskolan Dalarna has introduced Sweden's first higher education program dedicated to assisted technology, opening applications from March 16 to April 15, 2026. This innovative program is tailored for students interested in developing technologies that enhance independence and quality of life, particularly responding to the increasing demands driven by Sweden's aging population.

Dalarna is notable for having the oldest population in Sweden, which intensifies the need for assistive technologies such as feeding robots and communication aids to support individuals with disabilities and health challenges. Johan Borg, the program director, highlighted that the initiative aims to equip students with the skills necessary to innovate in healthcare and welfare, fields increasingly shaped by digitalization.

Graduates of the program will have diverse career opportunities, including roles as product developers, usability specialists, and independent consultants. A significant potential employer is the Hjälpmedelscenter in Falun, a sprawling facility of about 4,000 square meters that showcases cutting-edge assistive technologies.
