Sweden Hosts Historic 2026 Women's Volleyball European Championship with Record-Breaking Excitement

The excitement in Sweden is palpable, with over 4,200 tickets sold for the opening match against Montenegro—setting a new pre-event record and surpassing the previous high of 4,020. Event manager Tobias Winsnes dubbed it "the century's volleyball party," highlighting the unprecedented enthusiasm surrounding the championship.

Svenska Volleybollförbundet's sports director Angelica Ljungquist praised the growing success of Swedish volleyball, especially in beach volleyball. Meanwhile, the Swedish men's volleyball team celebrated a historic milestone by winning their first European Championship this weekend, simultaneously securing qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Prominent players David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig are strong candidates for the Olympic squad.

On the women's side, star player Isabelle Haak stands out as the face of Swedish volleyball. Having overcome exhaustion syndrome, she now feels physically and mentally strong, inspiring the team. Sweden's group includes Montenegro, Slovakia, Italy, Croatia, and France.
