Sweden Faces Decline in Housing Starts and Completions Amid Market Mismatch in 2026

In the second quarter of 2026, Sweden experienced a slight downturn in new housing construction, with 7,413 homes started, marking a 2.7% decrease from the same quarter last year. Additionally, completions dropped more sharply to 6,760 homes, a decline of roughly 14% compared to Q2 2025. These figures indicate a trend of reduced building activity influenced by recent economic challenges, including high inflation and rising interest rates.
