Sweden Evacuates Nearly 180 Citizens from Dubai Amid Missile Attacks

Swedish authorities have successfully evacuated nearly 180 Swedish citizens from Dubai, where escalating missile attacks and safety concerns have unsettled the region. The Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs chartered a plane that departed Dubai late Saturday night and landed at Arlanda Airport early Sunday morning, carrying about 180 Swedes along with some Finnish nationals.

Among those evacuated was the Norkyn family, who recounted hearing missile explosions and seeing smoke plumes while at the beach in Dubai. Despite nervousness during the flight, the family was relieved to be safely returning home. They had registered on the Foreign Ministry's evacuation list.

The evacuees were required to pay for their tickets, with adult fares costing 12,000 SEK and children's tickets priced at 9,000 SEK. Payments were made via Swish in advance. Though the flight was not at full capacity due to late cancellations, the Foreign Ministry emphasized that assistance is available to those who find it difficult to cover travel expenses.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson welcomed the returning citizens and expressed gratitude to the Foreign Ministry for their efficient efforts. He confirmed that 173 Swedish nationals were on board the flight.

This evacuation follows heightened security risks in Dubai linked to missile strikes, making it unsafe for Swedish citizens to remain. The government’s rapid response highlights the emphasis on citizen safety abroad amid such turmoil.

The successful operation was noted alongside other international incidents, including an explosion near the US Embassy in Oslo with no reported injuries, underscoring a tense global security environment.
