Sweden Eliminated by Taiwan in 2026 World Team Table Tennis Championships Quarterfinal

Sweden's journey at the 2026 World Team Table Tennis Championships ended with a tough quarterfinal loss to Taiwan. The Swedish team faced a challenging match-up against a strong Taiwanese squad led by world number seven Lin Yun-Ju.

The quarterfinal began with Truls Möregårdh, who is coping with a shoulder injury, losing in straight sets to Lin Yun-Ju (11–8, 11–9, 13–11), giving Taiwan an early 1-0 lead. Anton Källberg then dropped his match to the promising 17-year-old Kuo Guan-Hong, which left Sweden in a difficult position.

Elias Ranefur, making his World Championships debut, stepped up under pressure and secured a crucial 3-1 victory over Yi-Hsin Feng, bringing the score to 1-2 and reigniting hope for the Swedish team. Möregårdh redeemed himself by defeating Guan-Hong in three straight sets, leveling the match at 2-2 and creating excitement among the crowd.

However, in the decisive fifth match, Källberg faced Lin Yun-Ju once again but was unable to overcome the Taiwanese star, losing decisively in straight sets. This final loss sealed Sweden's elimination from the tournament.

Taiwan now advances to the semifinals to face Japan.

Despite the setback, Möregårdh reflected on his performance, acknowledging the difficulty of playing with an ongoing shoulder issue but stating he performed adequately against a top-ranked opponent.
