Sweden Democrats Politician Quits After Racist and Violent Posts on Social Media

A Sweden Democrats (SD) politician in Blekinge has requested to leave the party following backlash over inflammatory statements made on the social media platform X. The politician, who holds an elected position in a local municipality, posted derogatory remarks calling Islam "a dysfunctional, invasive religion" and expressed a disturbing desire for violence against a Black person. In an interview with P4 Blekinge, the individual defended the posts by stating, "I think so," confirming the views reflected his personal beliefs.

The local chairman of the Sweden Democrats in the municipality condemned the posts as unacceptable and announced that an internal investigation would be conducted. Despite this, the politician chose to resign from the party preemptively amid the controversy.

This incident follows other recent inflammatory rhetoric linked to Sweden Democrats politicians. Kent Ekeroth, another SD member, sparked criticism by referring to voters with foreign backgrounds as "röstboskap från utlandet" (voting cattle from abroad). Bishop Fredrik Modéus of Växjö sharply condemned Ekeroth's comments, characterizing such language as a threat to democracy.

The outbreak of these statements comes at a politically sensitive time, with right-wing politicians pointing to immigration as a factor behind the Tidö parties' loss of their parliamentary majority. The Sweden Democrats' reputation for nationalist and anti-immigration stances means these remarks add fuel to ongoing public debates about race, religion, and democratic values in Sweden.

As of now, the Blekinge SD politician has formally left the party, but the broader issues raised by these statements continue to provoke widespread concern and discussion throughout Swedish political circles.
