Sweden Democrats Politician in Skaraborg Sentenced to Prison for Rape and Sexual Assault

A prominent Sweden Democrats (SD) politician in Skaraborg has been sentenced to three years and six months in prison for rape and sexual assault offenses committed in 2024 and 2025. The court found the politician guilty of one count of rape and one count of sexual assault against two different women. While he was acquitted of charges related to two additional rapes and invasive photography allegations, key evidence supporting the verdict included medical findings, DNA traces, and a note from the politician's phone admitting to having sex with one of the victims on the night in question.

The politician held significant trust positions in both municipal and regional government and was a member of the municipal council in Skaraborg when arrested in December 2025. Following the conviction, he was suspended from the SD party, and party officials have stated he will be excluded due to the sentence. Tobias Andersson, district chairman for SD in Skaraborg, highlighted that the party acted swiftly upon receiving information regarding the case.

Throughout the legal proceedings, the politician has consistently denied the allegations and has no prior criminal record. The arrest and sentence have drawn attention to serious misconduct by a leading political figure within Swedish local politics, reflecting the gravity of the offenses and legal actions taken.
