Sweden Democrats Official Under Fire for Spreading Pro-Russian Messages

A female official within the Sweden Democrats (Sverigedemokraterna, SD) has come under intense scrutiny after revelations that she has disseminated pro-Russian and Kremlin-aligned messages on social media for several years, according to investigations by Expo. The official’s activities include participation in a controversial 2017 trip to Russia, arranged by Kremlin-affiliated actors aimed at influencing foreign election observers. Her social media sharing of pro-Russian content reportedly began after Russia's annexation of Crimea and persisted following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed strong concern about the findings, emphasizing that there is no room in Sweden for pro-Russian narratives amid the ongoing conflict in Europe. He called for decisive action, stating that if the allegations are confirmed, the official in question must be removed from her position. The government regards Russia as Sweden’s largest security threat, further underscoring the seriousness of the case.

Peter Hultqvist, defense policy spokesperson for the Social Democrats, called for a parliamentary security investigation to examine possible infiltration by Russian networks, highlighting the official’s deep connections to Russian-linked groups within Sweden.
