Sweden Boosts Global Health Funding with Additional 250 Million Kronor in 2026

The Swedish government has announced a significant increase in its funding for global health initiatives in 2026, pledging an additional 250 million kronor to support key international health efforts. This new financial boost aims to enhance maternal healthcare and vaccination programs across the globe.

The fresh allocation will be distributed among three major organizations: the vaccine alliance Gavi, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. This move comes on top of the more than 1.5 billion kronor Sweden has already committed for global health during 2026.

Social Minister Jakob Forssmed emphasized the crucial impact of these investments, stating that strengthening vaccines, maternal health services, and overall health systems worldwide could save millions of lives and foster sustainable development. He highlighted the government’s commitment as a strategic step to address pressing global health needs and reduce mortality.

The increased funding is part of Sweden’s broader efforts to support global health security and equity.
