Sweden Adds Edwin Aspenbäck to Handball EM Squad Ahead of Crucial Matches

Sweden's national handball team has called up 19-year-old right back Edwin Aspenbäck as the 19th squad member ahead of their critical matches in the 2026 Handball European Championship. This move comes after Sweden's heavy defeat to Iceland, which put them under immense pressure to win their upcoming games against Hungary and Switzerland to secure a spot in the semifinals.

According to Swedish team press chief Daniel Vandor, Aspenbäck's addition is a precautionary measure due to the demanding schedule ahead, which may include up to four matches within six days. Aspenbäck is expected to provide backup to Lukas Sandell and Albin Lagergren, strengthening the lineup's depth. Vandor did not specify any injuries but emphasized the importance of having sufficient players available during this intense stretch.
