SVT to Broadcast Sweden's 2027 Basketball World Cup Qualifiers Live

SVT has acquired the exclusive broadcasting rights for all of Sweden's men's national basketball team's qualification matches for the 2027 World Cup in Qatar. This fall's crucial matches will be available live on SVT Play and Kunskapskanalen, bringing the sport closer to Swedish fans. NBA star Pelle Larsson expressed his enthusiasm about the announcement, calling it a "Jätteroligt besked," highlighting the importance of the games being accessible to a wide audience.

The Swedish team faces stiff competition, including Olympic silver medalists France featuring star Victor Wembanyama, as well as Finland and Hungary. The first qualifying home game against France has been moved from Hovet to the larger Globen arena in Stockholm due to overwhelming fan interest, underscoring basketball’s growing popularity.

The qualification schedule includes key fixtures such as Finland vs. Sweden on August 27, Sweden vs. France on August 30, followed by matches against Hungary and another visit against France later in the year. The campaign concludes with home and away games against Finland and Hungary in early 2027. Martin Kroon, SVT’s deputy sports manager, expressed excitement about airing these decisive matches leading up to the World Cup taking place from August 27 to September 12, 2027.
