Storm Dave Sweeps Through Southern Sweden with Severe Wind Warnings and Travel Disruptions

Storm Dave continues its powerful march across southern Sweden during the Easter weekend, bringing strong winds and significant disruptions. The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued an orange warning for southwestern Sweden, including key cities such as Gothenburg, Trollhättan, Uddevalla, Borås, and Jönköping, with warnings in effect until 2:00 AM Monday. The warnings were later expanded to cover northeastern Götaland and parts of Örebro, Södermanland, and Västmanland with a yellow alert.

Winds are forecasted to reach speeds up to 30 meters per second, with even higher gusts possible in localized areas like the Bohus coast. SMHI meteorologist Magnus Nilsson Sangrud urged residents to stay indoors, secure loose items like garden furniture and trampolines, and avoid unnecessary travel. The Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) has activated its preparedness plan, including deploying contractors to remove trees and reduce hazards.

Travel disruptions are already occurring, with certain train routes such as Jönköping-Vaggeryd and Kalmar-Linköping completely halted, and other services facing delays or cancellations. Several ferry services have also been canceled due to the storm's impact. Trafikverket spokesperson Johan Nilsson Holmqvist advised travelers to carry food and power banks in case of extended delays. Additionally, there is concern about power outages, telecommunications disruptions, and damage to forests, highlighting the storm’s severity.

With Easter Sunday experiencing the brunt of the storm, authorities strongly caution residents to prioritize safety and monitor service updates closely.
