Stolen Dodge Rams from Sweden Linked to Russian Military Operations

A troubling surge in the theft of Dodge Ram vehicles in Sweden has raised alarms due to their suspected use by Russian forces in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. Since November 2022, more than 200 Dodge Rams have been reported stolen, with 141 of those vehicles remaining unaccounted for. This recovery rate is starkly lower than the typical 23% for personal vehicles, showcasing a significant concern for law enforcement and the public alike.

Niclas Antonsson, an investigator with Larmtjänst, described the situation as a 'gigantic problem,' emphasizing the sophistication involved in these thefts. Many of the stolen vehicles are reportedly fitted with electronic immobilizers, suggesting that obtaining them is far beyond the capabilities of casual thieves. Antonsson has noted that these thefts are likely orchestrated by organized crime networks, as they often alter the vehicles' identities through sophisticated methods before smuggling them out of the country.

Intelligence reports have indicated that the stolen Dodge Rams are being repurposed by Russian military forces as launch platforms for drones utilized in the war against Ukraine. Videos from Russian propaganda sources have showcased these vehicles in action, reinforcing the alarming connection between local organized crime and international conflict.

The Swedish police have revealed that while some stolen vehicles are recovered, most are found in neighboring Eastern European countries, a testament to the organized smuggling operations at play.
