The Stockholm police have prepared a dedicated and specialized resource to oversee three scheduled demonstrations on the evening of October 7, marking the third anniversary of the Hamas terror attack against Israel. This anniversary recalls the tragic event in which 1,200 people were killed and 251 kidnapped.
Among the demonstrations is the regular weekly Palestinian demonstration, which coincidentally falls on the same date as the anniversary. Concurrently, two other gatherings will take place at Mynttorget in Gamla Stan and near the Israeli embassy. These are organized to show support for Israel and to honor the victims of the terror attack.
Ola Österling, spokesperson for the Stockholm police, emphasized the need for enhanced security and proper management, stating, "We have a resource allocated to work specifically on these matters on the anniversary." The goal is to ensure public safety and order as the city navigates multiple demonstrations with potentially contrasting viewpoints.
The proactive police presence reflects the sensitive nature of the events as well as the heightened emotions connected to this somber anniversary. The allocation of experienced officers aims to manage the demonstrations effectively and prevent any escalation of tensions.
