Stockholm County Tops Swedish Life Expectancy Rankings for the First Time

Stockholm County has overtaken all other regions in Sweden to record the highest average life expectancy for both women and men, according to the latest data from Statistics Sweden (SCB). This marks the first time Stockholm has achieved this top ranking in life expectancy statistics, reflecting significant regional disparities in health outcomes across the country.

The announcement was made by Li Ma, a demographer at SCB, who highlighted the importance of this shift. In particular, the municipality of Danderyd in Stockholm shows exceptionally high averages, with women living an average of 87.8 years and men 85.9 years.

Meanwhile, regions like Norrbottens län continue to report the lowest life expectancy over the last five years, underscoring the ongoing health inequalities between counties. The data draws attention to the significant differences in longevity within Sweden, reflecting varied socioeconomic and health factors.
