Southern Sweden Faces Extremely High Forest Fire Risks as SMHI Issues Warnings

Southern Sweden is currently experiencing extremely high to very high forest fire risks, driven by ongoing dry weather conditions affecting multiple regions including Skåne, Blekinge, and Östergötland. The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued warnings emphasizing the severity of the situation and the need for vigilant fire prevention efforts.

According to SMHI meteorologist Kristin Hallberg, large parts of Götaland, Svealand, and southeastern Norrland are affected by fire risks ranging from very high to extremely high levels. The critical fire risk conditions in southern Sweden, particularly in Skåne and Blekinge, are predicted to persist at least until Thursday, with possible adjustments depending on weather changes.

In Östergötland and nearby counties along the Baltic coast, SMHI confirmed the risk as very large to extremely large, maintaining this alert status through Sunday evening until 11 pm. The dryness across vast areas of southern Sweden has been a key factor in elevating the risk.

The meteorological institute continues to provide daily updates on fire risk levels, emphasizing that any rainfall may help reduce the critical situation. However, until significant precipitation occurs, residents and authorities in the impacted regions need to exercise caution to prevent forest fires.
