Socialdemokraterna Proposes 15-Year Age Limit and ID Checks for Social Media in Sweden

The Swedish Social Democratic Party, led by Magdalena Andersson, has put forward a significant proposal to regulate social media use for children in Sweden. The party advocates implementing a 15-year minimum age limit for social media access, accompanied by stringent identification requirements for creating accounts. Andersson highlighted the aim of protecting children and young people from addictive algorithms on these platforms, stating, "We need to protect children and young people from addictive algorithms."

Beyond age and ID restrictions, the party also intends to introduce special online police to monitor the internet. This initiative aims to improve the digital conversation climate and enable a more effective police presence in the online space. Andersson noted that the strict ID system would facilitate better policing capabilities in digital environments.
