Skurup Launches Innovative Program for Early Detection of Elderly Health Needs

Skurup municipality has introduced a proactive health initiative aimed at identifying the needs of elderly residents before issues deteriorate. As part of this program, seniors will provide feedback on their health, daily life, and well-being through a new system integrated with digital locks installed in their homes.

The initiative is designed to catch early signs of health concerns, allowing prompt intervention to improve quality of life. Damir Babic, a spokesperson for Skurup kommun, stressed the importance of acting promptly: "You should not have to wait until you feel even worse." This approach represents a shift from reactive to preventive care for the aging population.

The program also encourages social engagement among the elderly, as loneliness is a known risk factor for health problems. According to psychologist Caroline Erkers from Svea KBT, socializing with grandchildren and other generations greatly benefits mental and physical health by reducing isolation and the risk of diseases like dementia. Skurup’s focus on early detection and holistic care highlights the value of both medical and social support systems to enhance well-being in seniors.
