Skellefteå kommun is making a significant investment in the health of children and young people by inaugurating a new FUZED facility at Eddahallen. This innovative space is designed to blend gaming with physical activity, encouraging a healthier lifestyle among youth in the community. Marie Bergslycka, Chair of the Leisure Committee, underscored the critical importance of creating a welcoming environment where young people can engage in both their interests in gaming and physical exercise.
The newly opened FUZED facility aims to cater to the rising demand for youth gaming spaces in Skellefteå, as noted by Ingrid Thylin, the Cultural and Leisure Manager. She pointed out that while the area boasts various cultural and recreational amenities, there has been a lack of dedicated spaces for gaming, which has become an essential part of youth culture. The FUZED concept, which successfully operates in Helsingborg and Uddevalla, hopes to facilitate a similar thriving community in Skellefteå.
Karl Sergel, CEO of FUZED, expressed his excitement about the expansion into Norrland, stating that this initiative not only supports the well-being of local youth but also fosters opportunities for digital connections among children from various regions across Sweden. The Skellefteå facility marks the fourth FUZED location in Sweden, with additional facilities planned, including one in Borås slated to open by winter 2025.
This venture aligns with a growing national trend aimed at integrating gaming with physical health initiatives, as communities recognize the potential of such spaces to keep youth active and socially engaged. The FUZED facility at Eddahallen is poised to become a central hub for local youth, promoting health, well-being, and social interaction in a modern context.
