Serious Sexual Assault at Arlanda Hotellby Migration Center Sparks Safety Concerns

A serious sexual assault involving a minor is reported at the Migrationsverket return center in Arlanda Hotellby, Märsta. The incident, which took place on Monday in a public area near restrooms below the dining hall, has resulted in one hospitalization and heightened fears among the families residing at the center. Police responded quickly after receiving the report of the crime, and investigations are currently ongoing under prosecutor Urszula Grabowska. Due to the sensitivity of the case, officials from Migrationsverket, Rädda Barnen, and the prosecutor have refrained from disclosing specific details.

Child psychologist Josefine Paulsen from Rädda Barnen emphasized that authorities have long been aware of safety and protection risks at the center. She pointed out that this incident has intensified the precarious and distressing situation for children living within the facility. Rädda Barnen has since activated crisis support to assist affected individuals at the center.

Melissa Toutounge Aksöz, the legal representative for the affected child, highlighted her dedication to ensuring the child’s safety and a fair legal process while also voicing criticism of the living conditions at the center. She noted that the mixed accommodation of families and single adults creates insecurity and exacerbates problems for residents. Following the assault, families at the center have expressed significant fear and frustration over the lack of communication from Migrationsverket, which has led to rumors and increased anxiety.

In response to these events, Migrationsverket has increased its personnel presence to bolster security at the facility. This assault incident has brought renewed calls from child protection advocates for urgent measures to safeguard vulnerable children living in crisis situations within Swedish migration centers.
