Serious Bus Accident Outside Växjö Leaves Several Injured, Road Closed

A serious bus accident occurred on October 5, 2026, on road 25 between Växjö and Alvesta, causing significant injuries and emergency response efforts. Around 30 passengers were on board a double-decker bus when it overturned near the area between Hanaslöv and Kvälleberg heading towards Alvesta at approximately 16:30. The cause of the accident remains unclear, with police confirming it as a single-vehicle accident and currently conducting interviews with the bus driver and passengers to determine its circumstances.

Emergency services, including police, ambulances, rescue teams, and a helicopter from the Swedish Maritime Administration, responded promptly to the scene. The road was fully closed in both directions, and traffic is being rerouted.

Several injured individuals were transported to hospitals in Växjö and Ljungby. Region Kronoberg activated its emergency response team and prepared critical hospital departments such as intensive care, surgical units, and radiology to receive patients. The region reported that four to six individuals were seriously injured, with overall several people requiring hospital treatment.

Martin Olofsson, a team leader at SOS Alarm, described the situation as a "serious accident," noting that the ongoing rescue operation is expected to last several hours. Authorities remain focused on ensuring the safety of the injured and investigating the accident's cause, though no criminal charges have been filed at this time.
