Sara Hector and Walter Wallberg to Carry the Swedish Flag at 2026 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony

Sweden's participation in the 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony will be marked by the distinguished presence of alpine skier Sara Hector and mogul skiing gold medalist Walter Wallberg as the nation's flag bearers. Scheduled for 20:00 on Friday, February 6, the ceremony will unfold across multiple locations including Milan, Cortina, and Livigno, with Hector carrying the flag in Cortina and Wallberg in Livigno.

Both athletes expressed deep honor and excitement about their roles. Wallberg noted the significance, especially since he missed the previous Olympic ceremony, saying, "It feels very good and big to carry Sweden here during the opening ceremony of the Olympics." Hector added, "It feels incredibly honorable to be a part of the whole amazing Swedish team and to carry the Swedish flag."

However, the Swedish cross-country skiing team has chosen not to attend the opening festivities, with team manager Anders Byström stating their desire to "keep ourselves within our bubble and not expose ourselves to any risk." This cautious stance is mirrored by Norway's team, which also opted out due to concerns of fatigue before competition.

Historically, Sweden has appointed notable athletes as flag bearers at previous Winter Olympics, including Peter Forsberg in 2010, Anders Södergren in 2014, and more recently Emma Nordin alongside Oliwer Magnusson in 2022.
