SamCert AB Pioneers AI Governance with ISO/IEC 42001 Certification in Sweden

Swedish company SamCert AB has become the first European firm to earn ISO/IEC 42001 certification, the international standard for AI management systems. This milestone marks a significant advancement in responsible AI governance, integrating management principles akin to those used for quality and environmental systems. Ann-Sofie Gustafsson, CEO and founder of SamCert, emphasized that AI demands dedicated governance and accountability frameworks as its role in everyday business decisions expands.

The certification process, audited internationally, focused less on the technology itself and more on how companies manage and take responsibility for AI usage even without extensive support functions. Following certification, SamCert has woven AI governance into its operations alongside ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, creating a unified framework for accountability. This system clarifies responsibilities and sets clear boundaries for AI-driven decisions within the company.

With the EU's AI regulations and Sweden's national AI strategy reinforcing the importance of transparency and AI competence, SamCert views these developments as validation of its proactive approach.
