Ronneby Municipality Moves to Recover Over 1.2 Million SEK in Political Overpayments

Ronneby municipal council has officially decided to reclaim approximately 1.2 million SEK in incorrect political remuneration paid to around 50 to 54 politicians between 2019 and 2025. The decision followed a thorough investigation and was supported by a majority of council members despite criticisms from the audit. The repayment effort involves notable politicians such as Therese Seefried (KD), who owes 227,845 SEK, and Anders Lund (M), with 106,238 SEK to repay.

During the council meeting, several politicians had to leave the room due to conflicts of interest, reflecting the widespread impact of the overpayments. The municipality administration will now offer various options to facilitate repayment by the affected individuals.

Nicolas Westrup, second vice chairman of the council and member of the Sweden Democrats (SD), led the decision-making process and described the discussions as constructive. He emphasized the significance of this move, stating it is a crucial step toward restoring public trust in local politics, which has been strained by the remuneration discrepancy. According to Westrup, the decision enables politicians to correct past mistakes and signals a commitment to political integrity.

This resolution marks a decisive attempt by Ronneby to address the financial irregularity promptly and transparently, aiming to strengthen accountability and safeguard public confidence moving forward.
