Rögle Signs NHL Veteran Calvin de Haan Ahead of SHL Season

Swedish hockey club Rögle BK has secured the signing of 34-year-old NHL defenseman Calvin de Haan on a one-year contract, just one day before the start of the SHL season. De Haan has an impressive track record, having played over 700 games in the NHL for teams including the New York Islanders, Chicago Blackhawks, and Carolina Hurricanes. This move comes amid interest from other clubs, notably Brynäs, which ultimately declined due to financial concerns.

Expressing his excitement about joining Rögle, de Haan highlighted the passionate fanbase in Ängelholm, stating he looks forward to showcasing his offensive skills, a role that has not been a primary focus in his prior defensive responsibilities in the NHL. Rögle's coach, Dan Tangnes, believes de Haan is a perfect addition to the squad, aligning well with the team’s aspirations for the upcoming season. Although he will miss the first game against Färjestad, de Haan is expected to join the team next week, enhancing Rögle's lineup as they commence their SHL campaign.
