Rising Stars Michael Odinks and Madison Chantler Join Swedish Pro Teams in 2026

Two promising young athletes have made significant moves into Swedish professional sports this summer. Michael Odinks, an 18-year-old basketball guard regarded as one of Sweden’s top emerging talents, signed with Norrköping Dolphins for his first season in the Swedish Basketball League (SBL). He will join the team in mid-August, coinciding with his third year of high school, marking a pivotal step in his career as he transitions from youth play and a brief stint in Croatia to a competitive professional environment in Sweden.

Meanwhile, Canadian ice hockey player Madison Chantler, 21, has signed with Luleå Hockey Dam in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL). Chantler brings significant experience from four NCAA seasons and a 2022 gold medal win with Canada at the U18 World Championship. Luleå’s sports manager Oskar Häggström applauded Chantler’s all-around skills, puck control, and offensive contributions, noting she tallied eight points in 35 games during her last NCAA season. Chantler’s move to Luleå will mark her entry into senior professional hockey, building on her collegiate success.

Both signings highlight Sweden's appeal to young talent advancing their professional sports careers domestically. Odinks' commitment to the Dolphins comes as he balances education with elite-level play, while Chantler’s arrival bolsters Luleå's roster with a proven scorer and versatile player ready to make an impact in the SDHL.
