Southern Sweden experienced an intense heatwave over the weekend of June 27, 2026, setting new local temperature records and prompting weather alerts, power outages, and concern among farmers. Farmers have been providing additional shade and water to help animals cope and expressed concerns about the potential impact on milk production and winter feed supplies amid the ongoing drought and fire risk. Several farms have proactively installed cooling systems to mitigate heat effects.

In Stockholm, temperatures reached nearly 30 degrees Celsius, prompting residents to enjoy outdoor leisure activities. While significantly cooler than southern Sweden, Stockholm's residents relished the sunshine, balancing hydration and shade to cope. The heatwave reflects a broader trend, with experts like Therese Fougman highlighting an increase from historically rare hot days in early 2000s Sweden to 15-20 such days annually today.

As the heatwave progresses, thunderstorms and rain are expected to move in from the west coast early Sunday, bringing relief yet also threats from strong winds storming eastward. Authorities and residents remain vigilant amid this historic heat event impacting daily life, agriculture, and infrastructure in southern Sweden.
