Punk Musical "The Clash was here" Set to Premiere in Örebro

The Örebro Teater is poised to unveil its latest production, a punk musical titled "The Clash was here," on September 13, 2025. This unique theatrical piece centers around the infamous concert by the legendary punk band The Clash at the Stora hotellet in Örebro in 1977, which was radically disrupted by a bomb threat. The musical intertwines various narratives stemming from that tumultuous period, exploring themes such as German terrorism, illegal arms deals, and secret romances, all conveyed through humor and absurdity.

Directed by artistic leader Py Huss-Wallin, the production features a complete ensemble from Örebro Teater, highlighting the absurdities of both past and contemporary worlds. Huss-Wallin, known for family-oriented productions, aims to resonate with audiences by presenting the eerie similarities in past events and current socio-political climates.

This premiere also marks the inaugural performance of a planned trilogy titled "This is Örebro," which will present three original plays based on real events that have shaped Örebro County's history over recent decades. Each production, while part of a larger narrative, can also stand alone, inviting audiences to engage with Örebro's diverse stories.

The script of "The Clash was here" is co-authored by Nils Granberg, who also performs at the Teater Martin Mutter, alongside Huss-Wallin, Hans Christian Thulin, and Amar Jašarević. The musical's creative team boasts various talents, including Peter Tikkanen as the conductor and composer, who adds a dynamic musical layer to the performance. Huss-Wallin notes that the narrative captures a mix of historical odyssey and fantastical elements, reflecting on societal issues that are both pressing and humorous.
