Protest at Bokmässan Highlights Perils Facing Journalists in Gaza

On September 27, 2025, around 100 individuals gathered outside the Bokmässan in Gothenburg to demonstrate against the treatment of journalists in Gaza, aiming to honor those who have lost their lives covering the ongoing conflict. Organized by the literary society Bröd och rosor, the event featured placards that prominently criticized several Swedish media figures, including Anne Lagercrantz, the CEO of Swedish Television (SVT). Participants held placards reading messages such as "We see how you support genocide," highlighting their discontent with perceived media complicity in the context of violence against journalists.

Additionally, another placard targeted Hynek Pallas, a journalist from the Expressen newspaper, questioning the narratives disseminated by him with the assertion, "Why do you spread propaganda?" Despite the intense issues being protested, reports from the scene indicated that the demonstration proceeded in a calm and orderly manner, showcasing a clear message of solidarity for the safety of journalists in dire regions.
