Political Turmoil Deepens Around Sweden Democrats’ Alleged Russian Ties Impacting Kristersson's Government

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson’s administration is facing a mounting political scandal involving a Sweden Democrats (SD) official accused of having ties to Russia. The official, reportedly in a relationship with Gustav Gellerbrant, a prominent SD figure working in the Prime Minister's office at Regeringskansliet, has been accused of disseminating pro-Russian messages on social media for several years.

Jimmie Åkesson, leader of the Sweden Democrats, described the allegations as "serious" during a recent press conference that was initially scheduled to focus on legislation protecting women from violence. Instead, the majority of inquiries targeted the controversy surrounding the implicated official.

Peter Hultqvist, chairman of the Defense Committee, has escalated the political pressure by proposing that Kristersson be summoned to the Defense Committee to explain the implications of this connection. Hultqvist emphasized, “This has a direct connection to the Prime Minister's Office. Ultimately, it is Kristersson who is responsible for the operations,” underlining the gravity and potential risks to government credibility.
