  • • Johan Forssell's son linked to far-right extremist groups.
  • • Forssell claims ignorance of his son's activities before media inquiries.
  • • Confusion exists over what authorities knew and when.
  • • Social insurance committee declines to summon Forssell for questioning.

Sweden's Migration Minister Johan Forssell is facing significant political scrutiny following revelations that his underage son is involved with far-right extremist groups, including connections to Nazi activities. This issue came to light when the investigative outlet Expo reported on July 1 that a close relative of Forssell had been participating in the extremist group Aktivklubb Sverige and attempting to recruit for a white power organization.

Forssell confirmed the report on TV4, expressing shock as a parent, and stated that he was unaware of his son’s extremist affiliations until approached by both Expo and the Swedish Security Service (Säpo). He emphasized, "I had no knowledge before Expo's contact" and reaffirmed that his son is not currently suspected of any criminal activities while expressing regret over past associations.

The timeline of events has led to confusion regarding what authorities knew and when. Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer claimed that Säpo had informed Forssell earlier about his son's activities, thereby contradicting the Minister's assertions. This has raised questions about transparency and the handling of such sensitive issues by security authorities.

Despite the serious nature of the allegations, the social insurance committee, which oversees Sweden's migration policies, opted not to summon Forssell for further questioning, a decision he criticized as an attempt to politicize his family matters. Forssell remarked, "Inquiries about my family are outside the committee's remit," defending his family’s privacy amidst escalating political tensions.

As the situation develops, Forssell continues to face pressure from opposition parties, who may use the scandal for political gain, further complicating his position within the government.
