Police Investigate Suspected Poisoning and Attempted Murder at Swedish Care Home and Hospital

Authorities in Sweden are currently investigating two alarming incidents involving suspected poisonings and an attempted murder at a care home and a hospital, underscoring serious concerns about safety and wellbeing in healthcare facilities.

At Akademiska sjukhuset in Uppsala, three employees from the same department fell ill gravely, with incidents occurring first on October 25 and then on November 3. According to police spokesperson Magnus Jansson-Karin, the individuals exhibited similar symptoms and required intensive care treatment initially, though none currently remain in intensive care. Police suspect poisoning and are treating the case as attempted murder or manslaughter. Investigators have conducted numerous inquiries, including sample collections, but no suspects have been identified yet.

Meanwhile, a separate incident at a care home in Flen involved a suspected murder attempt. A man in his 20s allegedly tried to kill a woman in her 30s, both residents of the facility. The woman sustained serious injuries but they were not life-threatening. Police arrested the man without incident at the scene around 9 AM, and the case is under active investigation.

These cases have prompted swift police responses, highlighting concerns about safety within both healthcare and residential care environments. The parallel nature of these incidents, involving vulnerable individuals and staff in familiar settings, has intensified the urgency of the investigations.
